Reflex Arc Diagram
Reflex Arc Diagram. Start studying Patellar reflex arc diagram. The nerve pathway followed by a reflex action is called a reflex arc.
The basic pathway for a nerve impulse is described by the stimulus response model.
Most reflex arcs are polysynaptic, meaning multiple interneurons (also called relay neurons) interface between the sensory and motor neurons in the reflex pathway.
A reflex action follows this general sequence and does not involve the conscious part of the brain. Most sensory neurones have a synapse within the spinal cord, allowing for reflexes to take place without the involvement of the central nervous. The reflex arc describes the pathway in which the nerve impulse is carried and the response is generated and shown by the effector organ.
