Alluvial Diagram

Alluvial Diagram. Later I learned that such plot exists and even has a name: alluvial diagram. These are profoundly different types of diagram; the alluvial plot is a member of a large family of visualizations that are designed to help visualize facts across several dimensions at once, whereas the Sankey diagram is at heart a general purpose flow diagram in which the height of elements is bound to some concept like 'amount'.

In the source data, each row of the dataset becomes a series of linking flows, each column defines a step, the cells with same value defines a node. We have developed the Flash applet above to make it easier for you to simplify and summarize important structural changes in your networks with alluvial diagrams (we recommend that you use the latest version of FlashPlayer). In allusion to both their visual appearance and their emphasis on flow, alluvial diagrams are named after alluvial fans that are naturally formed by the soil deposited from streaming water.

It visualizes frequency distributions over time or frequency tables involving several categorical variables.

Alluvial diagrams are a type of flow diagram originally developed to represent changes in network structure over time. I am looking for a visual way to show everyone who came into the process, and what happened to each person. In allusion to both their visual appearance and their emphasis on flow, alluvial diagrams are named after alluvial fans that are naturally formed by the soil deposited from streaming water.
